APRIL IN NEW YORK
‘One belongs to New York instantly, one belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years.’ Thomas Wolfe
This was my first work trip to New York and I must confess I was ridiculously excited. I was there to attend the University of Oxford North American Reunion at the famous Waldorf Astoria. Not only that I had a number of formal dinners and a cocktail hour to attend. Carrie Bradshaw eat your heart out!
When I wasn’t working there was plenty of time to enjoy the city, and I managed to cram in Strawberry Fields, Soho, and pretty much everything in between. I enjoyed bagels each morning looking up at the Chrysler Building, and far too many salted caramel ice creams. What can I say, they were good.
On my last night I met my friend Ally Lister for cocktails and lobster rolls on Broadway. Ally was on an internship at Saipua – lucky thing – and it was amazing to hear about her Brooklyn flower adventure. I didn’t do any shopping, much to the horror of my mum, ‘how can anyone go to New York and not buy anything?’ And I stayed at the historic New York Barclay, which I can thoroughly recommend, especially if you like a bit of vintage New York glamour.
New York, I had a blast, and I hope to see you again soon.
