MATISSE

As an art student images of Henri Matisse’s collages covered my walls, I loved their simplicity and colour, and I was especially drawn to artists who used a lot of blue in their work. So when I heard about the Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern, featuring just his collages, I couldn’t wait to get to London!

The exhibition was beautifully curated, and it far exceeded my expectations. There were over 120 collages on display, many exhibited together for the first time. The gallery was busy, and it was fun to share the space with so many adoring Matisse fans. To me listening to people discuss art is as addictive as people watching, I recall two children assertively telling their Mum The Dance was very rude!

As I drifted around the 14 rooms I jotted down the words that came to mind, and then my man and I wandered around London in search of some Matisse colour.

Colourful. Comforting. Cheerful. Emotional. Movement. Motif. Modest.  Minimal . Happy. Light. Floaty. Organic. Coral. Abstract. Outdoors. Garden. Alive. Accessible. Space. Design. Pattern. Print. Bold. Childlike. Scissors. Shapes. Innocent. Layering. Endearing. Delicate. Restful. Airy. Precision. Peaceful. Time. Lost. Tearful. Smiles.

The show runs until 7 September 2014, and I would definitely recommend a visit. Thank you to the Tate Gallery for my ticket.

I'm slightly ashamed to admit I've not visited one art gallery or exhibition in London!

Don't be ashamed, there's more than enough art and culture in Chanel, Bond Street!

Sounds fabulous. My students fell in love with Matisse when I shared "Henri's Scissors" with them. They were inspired to create many collages of their own.

Beautiful! That exhibition has been on my wish list, as well as the Cezanne at the Ashmolean. But what I would really like is to take my art club to them both and share the experience. It's not a feasible plan, but it's nice to dream all the same. I love the shots you took. The art against the white makes them all the more powerful. I spy and love the luxurious peonies!
