‘Famous Chelsea Buns’ at Fitzbillies, Cambridge

17th April 2015

‘Photographing a cake can be art’ Β Irving Penn

Last time I visited Cambridge I asked Twitter for recommendations. I was expecting people to suggest the Cambridge Colleges or punting on the River Cam, but instead everyone urged me to try a Chelsea bun at Fitzbillies, and so I did.

The experience was splendid and one to be repeated. So on a recent trip to Cambridge I revisited Fitzbillies, you see I had to ensure the superior quality was being maintained.

I like to think of myself as a bit of a Chelsea bun connoisseur because despite my blogger status* the Chelsea bun is my cake of choice. The Fitzbillies offering was just as I remembered; slightly firmer than your average bun and oozing with syrup. Definitely a cake worthy of being dubbed famous.

I took two back to Oxford to share with my man and I’m planning to take an empty suitcase on my next visit. They are really rather good. Trust me.

*The lifestyle blogger cake of choice is usually a pretty macaron or a pastel coloured cupcake.

I saw the photo of the window display first on IG. And my first thought was "I want that 3 storey high daffodil cake". Just to put in my kitchen.. and admire… *sigh*
