Last month I was invited to Paperfest; an inspirational event for designers, printers and makers. It was a fantastic day with a strong focus on creating, building and marketing your brand. Valuable lessons that could be applied to every business.
I especially enjoyed the talk by branding stylist Fiona Humberstone who asked us all to write down three words that sum up our brand or creative style. It really made me think, and I’d certainly recommend everyone to try it. Her book How to Style Your Brand is now top of my wish list!
Cath Kidston (below) was an absolute delight: driven, inspirational, charming and modest. It was fascinating to hear how she built her business while working as an interior designer. She admitted to being a worrier, and said if she could go back she would tell her younger self to ‘be brave and go for it.’ I was honoured to meet her after the talk, what a treat!
Here are a few things I jotted down during the day…
‘Believe in your own ideas.’
‘Keep an interested and curious mind.’
‘Ask for help.’
‘Learn to say no – it’s just as important as what you say yes to.’
‘Be brave and go for it.’
‘Keep referring to the focus of your brand and don’t get swept away by what everyone else is doing.’
‘Do the things that make you happy.’
‘Say no to the things that don’t make you dance around your kitchen.’
