EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING

I’m old fashioned when it comes to Sunday and I recall with great fondness a time when the shops were closed and the only activities were a roast lunch and catching the Radio 1 chart show.

I firmly believe simple pleasures are ones to uphold and for me, the best way to recharge my body and mind is to get back to basics. Here are five simple ways to find space, relax and unwind on Sunday.

**

A SLOW START

It’s a treat to spend a lazy Sunday morning in bed with a book and a cuppa. A little extra relaxation time is time well spent. I try my best to do 15 minutes of meditation each day. Sitting in a quiet room focusing on my breath helps to calm my mind. And by practising mindfulness I’m less inclined to dwell on the past or worry about the future. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is also helping in my quest to be present! Further reading: six things I gain from a year of mindfulness and meditation.

FRESH AIR

A brisk walk in the countryside is nothing short of invigorating. The crisp air helps to blow away the cobwebs and the distant horizon generates feelings of calmness and peace. It also enables me to evaluate what’s important and if I’m feeling overwhelmed I’m reminded not to sweat the small stuff.

SWITCH OFF

The one thing I always champion is spending time offline. So, gather up your laptop, smartphone, tablet or anything else that drains you of your time and hide them away. To be honest mine usually need a break as much as I do! Further reading: the joy of spending time offline.

CONNECT

Spending time with family and friends is my favourite pastime and I need no excuse to escape to a country pub for a family lunch. Catching up over good food and a crackling open fire is close to perfection, especially when I don’t have to do the washing up!

RELAX

I love old films, popcorn and my comfy sofa and on Sunday I like to combine all three. Putting my feet up and losing myself in a film is a great way to relax. I also find old films fill me with inspiration and motivate my creativity.

Today on the Laura Ashley blog I’m sharing my favourite items from the current collection. I hope you have a wonderful and restful Sunday.

My Sundays are usually about heading to a park or the cinema with my 5 yo, these days, but on the rare occasion that we get a day to ourselves, I love nothing more than tea and breakfast in bed and then finding a cosy pub to read the papers and eat a roast!

I so needed to read this right now! I need to spend Sunday recharging and I’m going to try me absolute hardest to switch off the laptop and iPhone! I find it really hard to do this in general, I think it’s a skill! x

About ten years ago I walked past a copy of The Power of Now just on a bench in the middle of town and it haunts me to this day that I didn’t pick it up – how could I have ignored a sign like that?!

I have the same idea of a perfect sunday, like walk in the countryside, even more than this season. Have a nice breakfast, with pancakes is perfect. Watch a film with my children. And the idea to sharing a roast chicken is always a good one! xo

Switching off is definitely the key for me.
And you can’t beat snuggling up with a glass of wine , a movie and your loved one!
