WHY, HELLO MARCH!
Spring is my favourite season, I love the warmer and longer days, blue skies and beautiful blooms. After all, there are few things more delightful than pretty bluebells and pink cherry blossom. At this time of year, I like to tweak my home interiors because restyling my environment makes me feel energised. So today I’m sharing a few ways to style up your home for spring.
This season I’ve had a little help from B&Q who recently contacted me to introduce their new Spring / Summer Home collection. Having completely renovated two properties and decorated a third I’m pretty familiar with B&Q and so I was excited to see what goodies they had in-store.
The new collections are grouped into four stories: Touch of Luxe, Meadow, Kasbah and Summer Daze which made selecting products really simple. I opted mainly for Kasbah because I felt it would compliment my existing style and I also selected a number of houseplants and pots to bring a little nature indoors.
STYLE UP YOUR HOME FOR SPRING
Introducing a few lighter and brighter colours will immediately lift the room. A simple and easy way to achieve this is through the use of accessories, for example, cushions, a throw, a rug or a few trinkets. I usually group all my existing items together replacing only the ones that fit with the new colour scheme. It’s nice to give things a rest because when you’re reunited with them they’ll feel all new again!
BULBS AND HOUSEPLANTS
Nothing says spring like bulbs and so filling your home with daffodils, tulips and hyacinths will give it an instant uplift. Leafy plants also make a room feel cheerful and alive and improve the air quality. But if you struggle to look after plants perhaps try low-maintenance ones like cacti or succulents.
SPRING CLEAN & DECORATE
Throw open your windows, put on your favourite music and spend a little time doing the jobs you’ve been putting off. For me this includes vacuuming under the sofa, cleaning the windows and wiping down the doors and skirting boards. This is also a great time to redecorate any areas that are looking tired. I like to go around with a pot of paint and a sponge to touch up any marks. Once it’s done I can relax and enjoy my sparkly home!
OUT WITH THE OLD
Spring is the easiest time to let go of unused or unloved household items. Looking forward to warmer weather and spending time outdoors means we don’t hold onto stuff as we do in winter. So why not take a moment to go through your things and declutter any items you no longer need. I always find a little edit is a big weight lifted and less time dusting trinkets means more time doing the things I enjoy.
Now is the time to switch up your home fragrances from the cosy winter ones to lighter fresher aromas. I like scented candles, reed diffusers, oils and pomanders because I love my home to smell fresh and luxurious, especially when I return home after a busy day.
