WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR BLOG’S USER EXPERIENCE
I spent last Saturday in Spitalfields with two fellow bloggers – Sue of Old Fashioned Susie and Ashley of Lazy Daisy Jones. It turned out we were all in London, so I thought it would be fun to catch up and discuss our businesses.
Yep, I know how to party!
I pondered over how we could best use our time together. Although I love talking about goals, I thought a blog Spring clean would be more beneficial. A little dust down to ensure the site is user-friendly and everything is in working order.
In advance of our date, I compiled a few questions and we each spent roughly 15 minutes auditing each other’s sites. The process gave us some objective feedback, helpful ideas and most of all a gentle push to address those outstanding tasks.
I’ve shared the questions here with a few additions we discussed on the day. It was great fun and I would certainly recommend the process. Although you may wish to tweak the questions to reflect your website, blog or business. And just to add, it’s vital to meet in an Instagrammable location that serves good cake!
Taking time out to help others can give a useful overview, enabling us to see things in our own business more clearly. A little mutual cheerleading and feedback are valuable and most of all they don’t cost a penny!
So here are a few simple questions to help you improve your blog’s user experience.
When on the homepage, is it clear what the blog is about?
Is there an about page and does it give sufficient information?
Does the blog feel organised with consistent branding?
Does the blog have categories and are they easy to find?
Does each post encourage further reading?
Can you navigate between blog posts?
Is there a search tool?
Are the social media links easy to find?
Are there ways to subscribe/follow the blog?
Is there a mailing list and is it simple to find?
Is it easy to share blog posts?
Can the images be pinned on Pinterest?
Is the contact information quick to locate?
Does the blog offer any services, products, e-courses etc.?
Is there a media kit?
Is the brand recognisable and consistent on all social channels?
Does the blog work on phones?
